Let’s get one thing clear right off the bat: We’re not talking about R-rated bed selfies here. No racy lingerie, okay?

But hey, that doesn’t mean you can’t have fun with your bed selfie.

In fact, if you’re looking for that chic, sultry bed selfie that’s so popular on social media, bringing a more natural and elegant feel to your selfie is going to do much more for you than doing anything that you’d want to hide from your Granny (you know what I mean).

Today I’m going to give you all the tips you need to master the bed selfie. Are you ready?

1) Know your angles

First things first, when you’re shooting a selfie in bed, know your angles. Please.

Don't drop your face into your pillow. Sooooo not cute. Instead, play with angles. A pop socket tends to be useful in these moments to help you avoid dropping your phone on your face (been there, done that).

Shoot from above, pull the covers up to just your eyes and shoot direct on, or even try sitting up and shooting downwards. The most important thing here is that your face looks on point, but also make sure it’s clear that you’re taking your selfie in bed. Otherwise, well, what’s the point of even being in bed, ya know?

2) Shoot with the light

When you’re shooting a selfie in bed, for the best results, I would suggest shooting with the morning light (i.e. have light streaming across the bed).

Vanessa Hudgens masters this in this bed selfie with her pup:

Not only does this give the selfie a more natural vibe, it also feels fresh, feminine, and, well, chic.

Because really, if the morning light is not there, let’s be real, it probably just looks like you crawled into bed at 2 pm for a little cat nap, or you’re strictly shooting there just to get a selfie. Neither option is great tbh.

3) Let followers use their imagination

As I said, I’m not trying to give out any R-rated advice, but that doesn’t mean you can’t have a little fun with your bed selfie.

Maybe bring the covers all the way up to your shoulders, indicating that you have nothing on underneath, but without actually showing off the goods.

Or hey, opt for that pajama top that shows off your midriff, or that hangs loosely off your shoulder.

Trust me, you don’t have to show it all to get people’s attention in a bed selfie.

4) Utilize a mirror

We’re all about a good mirror selfie, and if you’ve got a mirror across from your bed, utilize it. Not only will this really help solidify that you are, in fact, in bed, but it’s also great if you don’t want to get up close and personal with your bare face in the a.m.

Your face doesn’t need to be on full display to get a good pic.

5) Go for the “I woke up like this” look

Speaking of the face…

If you really want your bed selfie to look authentic, it’s best if you embrace your inner Beyonce and go with the “I woke up like this” look.

While we can’t all have the smooth, radiant skin that Queen B has, we can fake it ‘til we make it.

Yup, you’re reading that correctly. I’m suggesting getting out of bed, reaching for your best-tinted moisturizer, throwing on some light mascara, and running a brush through your hair.

You definitely don’t want to look like you did this, but a little (secret) primping never hurt anyone.

(Facetune helps, too! ;) )

6) Two is better than one

And lastly, when you're unsure about how to get the likes on a bed selfie, add in a partner.

Boyfriend, girlfriend, husband, wife… Whatever the deal, a spicy moment between two people in bed is guaranteed to get people’s attention.

And hey, if you want to make that bed selfie more “cute" than saucy, snap a pic with your child or pet.

Even snap the selfie while your partner is sleeping. This makes for a vibe that's a mix of tender and natural.
